Abstract: Sebbene la storia americana ricordi molti periodi in cui la persona disabile sia stata trattata male, il periodo tra il 1900 e il 1930 eugenico ha coniato parecchi termini dispregiativi collegando i deboli mentali a metafore dispregiative come: parassita, virus, cancro, piaga infettiva per la società. L'articolo analizza gli aspetti sociali legati all'uso di questa terminologia.
